Pavan Davuluri, a graduate of IIT Madras, has been named the new leader of Microsoft’s Windows and Surface divisions. This places him among other Indian executives who have climbed to the top of major tech companies, similar to Sundar Pichai at Google and Satya Nadella at Microsoft.
Davuluri is stepping into the role previously held by Panos Panay, who moved to Amazon last year. Before this new assignment, Davuluri was in charge of the Surface group, while Mikhail Parakhin led Windows. With the departure of Panay and Parakhin, Davuluri now oversees both the Windows and Surface teams.
Rajesh Jha, who leads Microsoft’s experiences and devices, shared details about this organizational change in an internal memo. Jha explained that this move aims to unify the Windows Experiences and Windows + Devices teams under the Experiences + Devices division. This integration is designed to foster a comprehensive approach to developing technology in the AI era, covering everything from silicon and systems to user experiences and devices across Windows platforms.
Pavan Davuluri, with over 23 years of experience at Microsoft, has played a significant role in the company’s collaborations with Qualcomm and AMD to develop processors for the Surface devices. Under his leadership, the Windows team will continue to collaborate closely with the Microsoft AI team to focus on AI, silicon, and creating new experiences.
