Call of Duty: Warzone Caldera shutting down in September

In a recent turn of events, Activision Blizzard announced that Call of Duty: Warzone Caldera, one of the last remnants of the original Call of Duty Warzone from 2020, will cease operations on September 21, 2023. This decision means that all Caldera gameplay, player progression, inventories, and online services will be discontinued on the specified date.

The aim of this shutdown, according to the company’s blog post, is to shift focus towards future Call of Duty content, which includes the current Warzone free-to-play experience. As part of this future vision, players should expect an influx of Warzone content across different consoles and PC. Activision Blizzard revealed plans for the launch of Call of Duty Warzone Mobile, promising a new era of Battle Royale gaming on mobile devices. This mobile version will include a shared Battle Pass and cross-progression, with further details to be revealed soon.

Worth noting is that the Caldera shutdown won’t affect the multiplayer in Modern Warfare 2019, Black Ops Cold War, or Vanguard. it will not impact the current iteration of Warzone. Call of Duty Warzone Caldera was initially launched as a separate game with content related to Call of Duty Vanguard. It was designed as a replacement for the original Warzone, which was taken offline shortly after the release of Warzone. there are expectations that Call of Duty will return to Modern Warfare with its release later this year. However, an official announcement concerning this has not been made yet.
